Two-visit protocol
The TB Skin Test (PPD) is a diagnostic tool used to detect tuberculosis (TB) infection. A small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) is injected just under the skin, usually on the forearm.
- After 48 to 72 hours, the injection site is examined for swelling or redness.
- A raised, firm bump may indicate TB exposure, depending on its size and the individual’s risk factors.
This test does not differentiate between active and latent TB infection and may require further testing if positive.
